About This

So just who are you?
I’m a freelance filmmaker, and directing alumna from the School of Theater, Film & Television at UCLA. I also studied English literature and international conflict resolution. I’m trying to navigate an ambition in narrative and documentary filmmaking with global and social relevance, but when I need some relief from my stressful, mind-crunching love for creative writing and filmmaking, I’ll free myself from the computer screen and relax in the kitchen–finding cooking as my actual hobby.

And why the blog–the MAD gastronomist?
My creativity doesn’t end when I stop tapping at the keyboard. No, I’m no Top Chef, but my approach to cooking is all about exploration and innovation. I’m always trying new ingredients and forming new combinations between strange and familiar tastes, techniques, and culinary cultures. My love of traveling and wading into new cultures has greatly contributed to this hobby of mine, so I hope that you might also learn a couple things about foreign cuisines. You will find no plain ol’ chocolate chip cookies in this blog, unless they’re loaded with something mad.

Why hello there, my lovely friend! I’ll be following your cooking adventures from now on. Although I can’t eat most of it (I’ve sworn off sugar, bread products, oil, red meat, and pretty much anything that tastes good), I’ll sure be salivating over the pictures.

Oh, and if your camera has a macro-mode, try fiddling with it. It makes for excellent food porn.

Ooh—thank you! Well if you’re like me, I hope that the mere photos will fill you up. (Bizarrely, photos make me less hungry. ;])
Ya, I’m not in a good tech situation. I’m using a Canon Vixia HD camcorder, though my LCD screen broke. So I just aim blindly.
I’ll be investing though… and you sure you don’t mean macro?

    Whoops, I meant “micro-mode.”

Yeah, I meant macro. It’s funny that it’s called macro mode but it’s for shooting small things. I should get this right, at least.
